| |  | | | | | | Tibetan Spaniel GiftsThe Tibetan Spaniel is one of a number of native Asian dogs that are descended from the Gobi Kitchen Midden Dog, making them one of the oldest breeds known today. Bred in the monasteries of Tibet where along with other breeds like the Shih Tzu, they earned the title of “Lion Dog”, the Tibetan Spaniel became one of the treasured gifts that were often sent to the royal families of Asia, consequently spreading the breed to several other countries where they then contributed to the development of other dogs. Their sole “working” role in the beginning was to serve as a guard dog, barking at approaching intruders to the monasteries. (continued below)

| (continued) The Tibetan Spaniel stands an average 10 inches at the withers, and weighs 9-15 lbs. They are accepted in all colors and combinations, with a specific directive that white on the feet is permitted.
A perky and intelligent dog, the Tibetan Spaniel makes an excellent family companion, being tolerant of children, and smart when it comes to learning tricks. They do however have a somewhat willful streak that requires firm and consistent training. They remain the barker they were prized for in centuries past, but are not excessively noisy, and perform well as watchdogs.
