The Pug dog is thought to be one of the oldest known breeds of dogs, originating somewhere in East Asia prior to 400B.C. However, some theories still exist that attribute the Pug’s build to the introduction of a bulldog ancestor, or perhaps a smaller version of the present day Dog de Bordeaux. By the 16th century, the Pug had a paw hold in Europe, where as something new and different, it became a favorite of royalty, and thus, anyone who could afford or find one. A Pug measures 10-14 inches at the withers, and weighs 13-20 lbs. They are permitted in three colors: apricot-fawn, silver and black, the first two colors to have a very definitive mask and markings in black. Pugs are an excellent dog for those seeking a small companion with personality. They are intelligent, perky, active and highly trainable, although somewhat sensitive to voice and correction. A Pug will guard your home and give warning of intruders, but is not yappy. At the same time, they will welcome friends, strangers, other pets and visiting animals. Occasionally willful, they also want their share of attention, and can “act out” if they don’t get it. ©DogDecor.com
