The Italian Greyhound measures 12-15 inches at the withers and is judged in two categories: dogs of 6-8 lbs and 8-10 lbs. They are accepted in almost any color except brindle, or dogs that have the tan markings of black and tan breeds.
Today’s IG as they are known, is the same sweetly affectionate pet that made it so popular 500 years ago. They are highly intelligent and possessed of a sense of humor that requires the owner have one too so as not to crush their spirit. A very malleable dog in temperament, they can easily become timid in an environment that is high stress and noisy. For this reason they may not be suitable in home with small or very active children, as they have been known to snap when frightened.
