Fox Terrier Dog Breed Gifts

The Fox Terrier, both wire-coated and smooth-coated, owe their ancestry and name to the sport of fox hunting for which they were developed. Their antecedents were a mixed variety selected for specific physical or character traits, and included the Dachshund, English Hound, Beagle and Foxhound. They are considered one of the oldest Terriers, handy for their rough coat, which survived rough territory, and noted for their persistence and skill in driving foxes from their burrows. A Fox Terrier stands 13-16 inches at the withers, and weighs 13-20 lbs. They are accepted with any color markings, as long as the body is predominately white. (continued below)

(continued) This is a scrappy ball of energy that will hunt, play or guard you with great enthusiasm. While they love their people they are the most aggressive of the terrier breeds and cannot be trusted with small animals and other dogs. Their readiness to respond with defensive action means they have been known to bite. They can be an excessive barker as well, which is annoying to both the family and their neighbors. Keeping them leashed or in their own fenced yard is a must, as is regular exercise and an outlet for their energy. © DogDecor.com
