Doberman Pinscher Gifts

A relatively “new” breed, only some 150 years old, the Doberman Pinscher was developed in Germany, by Louis Dobermann, from whom they draw the name. Dobermann was a tax collector that often traveled long distances alone with money. He set about breeding a dog that would not only be a companion, but a guard dog, and if necessary, a body guard. The “Dobie” likey owes its origins to a number of German Pinscher breeds, and possibly Greyhounds and Rottweilers among others, each of whom contributed specific characteristics to make the sleek, bold, fearless dog that emerged. Once established, the Doberman went on to such duties as police work, farm guarding, and “personal protection” dogs, which have now waned in use. (continued below)

(continued) Dobermans stand 24-28 inches at the withers, and weight 65-85 lbs. Accepted colors include solid red, blue, black, and fawn with rust colored markings in a defined pattern. As a result of their heritage, the Doberman is a natural guard dog, alert for danger, but not actively aggressive or reactive. They are a loyal, loving dog that needs your companionship to be happy, and will train well for many pursuits. They do however require a firm hand in training, from someone not intimidated by their undeserved reputation. A Dobie can be stubborn, but is also intelligent and acknowledges the alpha with no problem. © DogDecor.com
