Cairn Terrier Gifts and Merchandise

One of the original Scottish breeds of Terrier, the dog was named for the cairns of stones that marked graves and land boundaries, where small animals such as rats went to ground, and they were employed to dig them out. Their history, which dates back at least five centuries, is thought to be part of the ancestry of other noted Scotties terriers including the West Highland and Skye Terrier. A Cairn Terrier stands 9-13 inches at the shoulder and weighs 13-18 lbs. Their double coat, harsh and wiry on the outside, soft and fluffy underneath, may come in any color except white. (continued) Merry and lovable, the Cairn Terrier has boundless energy and retains the prey drive of its ancestors. This means firm and dedicated training is necessary to keep the upper hand, but it is not a difficult job if started early. The Cairn is extremely intelligent and will learn to do tricks even faster than it learns to obey commands, because it loves to please you. Sweet and patient with children, they nonetheless will try and pursue small game of other kinds, and must be socialized with family pets early on. A persistent digger, they should not be left in a yard unattended. © DogDecor.com
