 | (continued) ... attributed to the addition of Pugs to the Belgian breeding programs. The range of colors also contributed to the dogs being classified as three breeds in Europe, the smooth coated, the rough-coated in red, and rough coats of other colors. In America, the AKC recognizes only a single breed with two distinct coat types.
Very much a toy breed, the Brussels Griffon stands only 7-8 inches at the withers, and weighs 6-12 lbs. They come with the tough, wiry hair of a rough-coated dog, or a smooth, tight, flat coat that belongs to the smooth-coated dog. Colors include red, beige, black and tan, with some black on the face, or solid black. No white is allowed.
While first bred to work for Man, the Brussels Griffon quickly became and remains a family companion to this day. They are cheerful, affectionate and active, but at the same time, a clinging dog that demands attention and can be quite upset when it’s not forthcoming. Slightly hyper at times, they are nonetheless an engaging companion that can be taught tricks, but may be hard to housebreak. Because they are small and overly energetic at times, it may not be advisable to get one while your children are very young and liable to injure the dog or themselves with rough handling. © DogDecor.com | | | | |
