| (continued) ...the breed’s name being taken from his own. Renowned for its intelligence and reliability, the Briard was first used in war by the soldiers of Napoleon’s army, and later in WWI.
A Briard can range from 22-27 inches at the withers, with an average body weight of 75 lbs. They come in all solid colors except white, and are also permitted to shade from one color to another, but not to have spots. A white patch on the chest that does not exceed one inch at the roots of the hairs is permitted.
Having a long history of working beside Man, the Briard has retained an even temperament, however their origins as a working herding dog also means they remain alert at all times, which makes them an excellent guard dog. Affectionate with their own family, they seldom show like or dislike for other people. Briards learn easily but have a stubborn streak that can only be conquered with a firm hand and obedience training at an early age. They require a fair amount of exercise and structured activity to keep them in shape, and occupied in acceptable pursuits. © DogDecor.com |
