Bouvier des Flandres Gifts

The origins of the Bouvier des Flandres are lost somewhere in the mists of time, with both France and Flemish territories claiming to have bred the first of their type. It is suggested that the modern day Bouvier can trace its roots back to the Brussels Griffon and the Beauceron, which would appear to support the French claim, however in Flemish they are known as the Koehound, or cattle dog. Still, that is a mirror of the French name, which translates as Herdsman of Flanders, a small country that lies on the border between France and the Netherlands. Regardless of the country of birth, the Bouvier was indeed a talented farm dog, capable of tracking, guarding, and much more. (continued) ...the breed was nearly decimated. A Bouvier des Flandres ranges in height from 22-28 inches and 60-90 lbs. Their color can fall anywhere between fawn and black, with salt and pepper highlights, and brindling. Chocolate brown, white, and parti-color dogs are not considered desirable. The Bouvier is a strong-minded but not aggressive dog. However, a firm hand in training is needed to prevent issues of dominance. They are highly intelligent, loyal, even tempered, and a good pet for families with children. If socialized with other household pets at a young age, they should live together in harmony, although a dog with dominant tendencies may not be trustworthy with small animals. © DogDecor.com
