Classified as a medium size dog, the Bearded Collie measures 21-22 inches at the withers, and weighs 40-60 lbs. They come in four colors, with or without white markings: black, blue, brown and fawn, all of which may lighten with age.
Originally bred to herd sheep and cattle, breeding of the Bearded Collie in recent years has focused more on producing sound, healthy pets. They are a good-natured dog, but retain the high energy level that was needed for their original purpose. This requires regular exercise sessions to keep them occupied and out of trouble.
